Heroin During Cribbage Game Leads to Reckless Homicide Charge

Abrian E. Kane, 40, faces a reckless homicide charge after being accused of bringing heroin to a woman who was killed in April 2012.

A 40-year-old Waukesha man is accused of giving a fatal batch of heroin to a then 32-year-old woman during a game of cribbage in April 2012.

Theresa R. Wamser died after being transported from the 1700 block of Elder Street to Waukesha Memorial Hospital on April 26, 2012, for a drug overdose. The medical examiner's office ruled her death as heroin intoxication.

The man who brought the heroin to the cribbage game, according to the criminal complaint, was identified as Abrian E. Kane. Kane was charged Thursday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with reckless homicide.

Wamser had been found by friends passed out by a toilet at around 4:30 a.m. April 26, so they placed a pillow underneath her head. When one of the friends woke up again between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. April 26, she was found not breathing, according to the complaint.

Kane told police his prescription for Vicodin had ran out, so he used heroin for pain control. Kane admitted bringing the heroin to the cribbage game and leaving it on the table, seeing Wamser snort it with a straw, according to a criminal complaint.

Kane faces up to 25 years initial confinement in prison and $100,000 in fines if convicted of the felony charge.
