Updated 5:37 p.m. Thursday .: A new gym floor at Waukesha North High School received minor damage Thursday morning following a small fire.
As a result of the smoke that filled the area, the school will be closed to all students and personnel through this weekend, according to a post on the school's Facebook page. Thursday's early-bird iPad rollout is postponed until further notice.
According to the Waukesha Fire Department, crews were called just before 5 a.m. after staff at nearby Linden Grove Nursing Home noticed strobe lights on the school building were flashing. A small fire was discovered in the gym and additional stations were called in.

The fire was put out quickly and damage was contained to an area around a door, though the gym floor — in the process of being refinished — sustained some damage. The gym and some classrooms and hallways had a lot of smoke.
Investigators from both police and fire remained at the school Thursday morning. A property damage estimate was not immediately available, and nobody was injured.
