United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(April 30, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Tutors – Waukesha County

The Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha is looking for tutors in a variety of areas. Some examples include English as a second language tutors, GED tutors, tutors for children, and Spanish speaking math tutors. In most cases, volunteers do not need tot take training courses. They offer training three times a year, and they encourage all volunteers to take the training when it is offered. They do ask, however, that all volunteers have access to the internet to fill out weekly reports and to receive emails and newsletters.

"An Evening to Remember" Volunteers - Waukesha

Safe Babies Healthy Families is holding their annual gala, "An Evening to Remember," on May 8th. They need volunteers May 6th – May 8th between 9:00 and 1:00 to help create decorations, set up decorations, arrange tables, and display the raffle stations. Volunteers do not need to commit to the entire shift, but can instead sign up for shorter slots. Volunteers are also needed the night of the event on May 8th from 4:30-9:00. Duties may include assisting in the wine pull, pinwheel raffle, coat check, and more. Volunteers are asked to dress in casual office attire.

Office Assistant - Pewaukee

Are you looking for an opportunity where you can get in and out, and feel like you've accomplished something with each shift you have? Consider volunteering with Waukesha County's Workforce Development center where you play an integral part in our office and admin operations. Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, from approximately 10-12 or 11-1 to assist with opening, date stamping, and filing the mail; scanning and validating documents; checking and ordering office supplies; and more. This opportunity can be divided between multiple volunteers, so if you are unable to work all needed shifts, no problem! Volunteers will be trained in all aspects of the job, but should feel comfortable working on computers or with technology. Also should be comfortable working with and around a variety of coworkers.

Transporting Recycled Cans – Brookfield

The Elmbrook Humane Society is looking for someone to help out once or twice a month. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who loves animals but has limited time to help! They need a volunteer to come pick up their recycled cans and take them to the recycling center on Tesch Avenue in Waukesha in exchange for credit. The money that is received will go towards helping the animals in their care. Requirements: Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old. A van or truck is required, ideally with a tarp in case there are sticky soda cans.
