On the article Tougher Reading, Math Standards Mean Lower Test Scores in Whitefish Bay

Jeff Rumage

The reason there are higher percentages of proficient students in 2012 is because students were falling out of the advanced classification and into the proficient classification, due to the new state standards. For the purpose of the article, we added proficient and advanced together to paint a picture of how many students were at least meeting the proficiency benchmarks in reading and math. We provided the database so Patch users can look at different combinations of schools, subject areas, grade levels, etc.

I should probably mention that Paul Berlin, a co-owner of The Bay, was at last night's meeting and has been involved in these discussions.

Yes, the grading begins on the north side of the park, which is also where the softball field is currently located. I think it's more clear to say 'north side of the park', and use the softball field as a reference point. I hope that answers your question...

No, unfortunately I don't have any video footage. The information and photos were included in Principal Henkle's weekly parent newsletter, and I asked to share it on Patch. I'll try to make it out next year for some video, though!

On the article Bartlett Residents Upset By Increased Traffic

Jeff Rumage

You're right, they aren't quite to the point of pitchforks and protests on Bartlett, but there was some concern from the residents I talked to while walking the neighborhood on two different occassions. I talked to four residents (which I realize is not a scientific sample by any means) who shared their concerns: mostly about the increased congestion (as CowDung noted), others concerned about speeding, one person concerned about cars not stopping at stop signs and one person noting that they had difficulty backing out of their driveway. They also hedged their concerns with something similar to "Well I guess it only lasts another week and a half", as I paraphrased in the article. I thought it was worth a short article, but we probably disagree on that. If you have a story idea in mind, I'd be happy to follow up and write about any subject in the village. All we know is that they are 'non-residents' of Fox Point. Unfortunately Fox Point police records do not include age or place of residence of the suspects.

Yes, the detour has been on and off, based on the needs of the water main replacement project. This is just an update letting people know that after a couple weeks of following the curve on Lake Drive, they can now expect to turn right on Bartlett again.
