ReplyIt should be noted that last year's Super Boat Grand Prix took just days after Tropical Storm Debby hit (June 23), and tore up significant chunk of Lido Beach. I don't think any community would "buy in" to a festival as much after dealing with significant storm damage. However, the streets were awfully packed for the parade and you couldn't find any room on the beach. Maybe chalk that last one up to Debby.

There were some legal issues because of a state law overruling local laws, but the Florida Supreme Court made a decision recently that allowed the city to come up with an improved ordinance. You can read more about that here: http://patch.com/A-0VqW
