State Rep. Dale Kooyenga, R-Brookfield, is among legislators who feel the national board are sufficient for allowing chiropractors to practice in Wisconsin.
Zach Chudy moved away from Waukesha so he could pursue his dream of joining his father’s chiropractic office. After years of school, hard work and a few trips between Iowa and Wisconsin sprinkled in, he is ready to leave Palmer Chiropractic College to finish his clinical hours at Chudy Chiropractic Clinic on North Grandview Boulevard where Chudy hopes to work after graduation. But a state chiropractic exam — enacted in 2009 — has him worried about taking over the family business in Wisconsin. After accruing significant costs for chiropractic school and taking strenuous national boards to be a licensed chiropractor, he’s upset that he has to take “an unfair exam” costing $1,600 each test, he told Waukesha Patch. Opponents of the test claim …

The days of claiming the alternative minimum tax credit, historic rehabilitation tax credit and the working family tax credit may be over as State Assembly Republicans look at possibly cutting them.
If you were among the 790 families that claimed the working family tax credit or the 418 who claimed the historic rehabilitation tax credit, the 2012 tax year may be your last to do so. State Assembly Republicans are talking about nixing 50 tax credit programs -- including the alternative minimum tax, working family tax credit and historic rehabilitation tax credit -- that don't get used much by Wisconsin income taxpayers. The manufacturer's tax credit would remain untouched. If a proposal passes into law, the legislation would ultimately lower the tax rate, according to a story by the Journal Sentinel. Rep. Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield) told the Journal Sentinel that he's trying to simplify the tax code because it is "horrendous" and …

One of our local legislators is co-sponsoring a repeal of the state's law that requires restaurants serve butter—not margarine—unless a customer requests it.
A Racine legislator is part of the charge to repeal the state's remaining butter law. The law requires restaurants to offer patrons butter—not margarine—with their meals, unless the patron specifically requests margarine. Violating the statute comes with a possible penalty of a fine between $100 and $500 and/or spending up to three months in jail. Do it again, and the fine climbs to $500-$1,000 and imprisonment time grows to six months to one year. State Sen. Van Wanggaard, R-Racine, and Rep. Dale Kooyenga, R-Brookfield, introduced the law to repeal the law. Kooyenga told the Journal-Sentinel the existing law is "silly, antiquated and anti-free market." The state has a history of legislating the margarine-butter debate, starting with …

Mr Michels, - please tell me one thing I have said that is not the truth. I am familiar with who you and your business are. Yes, I do know who the board members are. I am also very familiar with the WCS and how it has already done more damage than the state test has spreading fear into DC students. Yes, I am aware of the board meetings and the weak attempts and arguments trying to propose that …   more ›
