Scrima's Pizza Opening Soon in Woodman's Food Market

Popular pizza joint is expanding to the east side of Waukesha this summer.

When Joe Scrima opened Scrima’s Pizza in June, long-time residents who remembered the original Scrima’s Pizza – which closed in the mid-1990s – asked him when he’d open on the east side of Waukesha. The pizza place is located in Dave’s Mobile at Silvernail Road and Grandview Boulevard. But for the second location, Scrima said he looked at several locations before finding the perfect place. Scrima’s Pizza will be opening a location in Woodman’s Food Market when it opens this summer. While there will be ovens for a limited amount of baking, the primary pizza sales will be take-and-bake pies. “We are excited about getting in there,” Scrima said. “Hopefully, it will go (well). When Is Waukesha Woodman's Opening?

Waukesha's newest grocery is now taking employment applications.

Wonder when the Waukesha Woodman’s will open? The employee-owned grocery store is scheduled for a July 1 opening date, according to a tweet from the Waukesha Woodman’s store @Woodmansfood40. The store is currently taking employment applications as it starts hiring for the new store. Construction on the store started in June 2012. The 243,753-square-foot facility will be located at 1600 E. Main St. and plans currently include eight outlots that will be developed into future commercial uses.  The project will create 219 jobs and increase property values by $15 million. Woodman’s Food Market celebrated its ground breaking ceremony Thursday at the former Spancrete site on the east side of Waukesha as community business and government leaders officially welcomed the new grocery store. The 243,753-square-foot facility will be located at 1600 E. Main St. and plans currently include eight outlots that will be developed into future commercial uses.  The project will created 219 jobs and increase property values by $15 million. Council Approves Incentives for Woodman’s Food Market

New grocery store will receive up to $3.5 million in tax incremental financing from Waukesha.

As plans for Woodman’s Food Market continue to move forward, the Waukesha Common Council Tuesday night unanimously approved a $3.5 million pay-as-you-go tax incremental financing incentive for the company to locate in the city. Woodman’s will invest the $3.5 million into the project. The city will reimburse the business from the increased taxes on the property. “The city is very excited to have Woodman’s coming to the City of Waukesha,” said Alderman Joe Pieper, who chairs the Finance Committee. Woodman's Food Market Purchases Former Spancrete Building

Building was purchased for $11.9 million, according to The Business Journal.

Woodman’s Food Market, which is looking to start construction in Waukesha this year, has purchased the former Spancrete building for $11.9 million, according to The Business Journal. The property at the former Spancrete site at East Main Street and Highway 164 was designated as being in blight by the Plan Commission in 2011. The 238,873-square-foot building will have eight outlots for additional commercial businesses. The project is receiving a $3.5 million in tax incremental financing incentives from City of Waukesha to locate at the site. Woodman’s Food Market is expected to open in summer of 2013 if all moves forward. The store plans on hiring 119 full-time and 100 part-time employees. Woodman's Food Market could receive city funding incentives to locate to Waukesha.

The proposed tax incremental financing district that would help lure Woodman’s Food Market to Waukesha keeps moving through the approval process. The Finance Committee unanimously voted in favor of the financing plan, which moves the funding request on to the Waukesha Common Council, which is scheduled to meet Nov. 1. The property at the former Spancrete site at East Main Street and Highway 164 was designated as being in blight by the Plan Commission earlier this month. The 238,873-square-foot building will have eight outlots for additional commercial businesses. Update, 8:29 p.m. Monday: The Redevelopment Authority unanimously approved the use of tax incremental financing for the Waukesha Woodman's Food Market – and to move forward with the project, according to Jennifer Andrews, community development specialist. The project still needs the approval of several governmental bodies, including the Finance Committee and Waukesha Common Council. The City of Waukesha could be offering Woodman’s Food Market as much as $3.5 million in “pay as you go” expenses that would be paid “partially or in full through development incentives,” according to a draft document about the plan that is going before city boards. The City of Waukesha is looking at establishing a tax incremental finance district to entice Woodman’s Food Market to the corner of East Main Street and Highway 164. A public hearing about the district’s boundaries will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at City Hall, 201 Delafield St. A memo from Steve Crandell, community development director and interim city administrator, stated that any partnership with Woodman’s requires a developer’s agreement. “TIF allows a city to use the taxes generated by new or improved properties in the district to pay for improvements that attract new development,” Crandell states in the memo. “Theses revenues are used to finance many worthwhile public improvements in the district such as sanitary sewers, storm …

Woodman’s Rezoning Gets Nod From Plan Commission

But Common Council has to make final approval.

The property at Highway 164 and East Main Street could be rezoned and the land use be amended from industrial to commercial to make way for a new Woodman’s grocery store. The plans for Woodman’s Food Market on the 33.6 acres of land on the northwest corner of the intersection have not yet been submitted for Plan Commission approval. However, Woodman’s is looking at putting in six out lots and a gas station/car wash, according to City Planner Doug Koehler. Woodman’s will also look to install two stormwater detention ponds, according to Koehler. The Plan Commission approved the rezoning request during its meeting Wednesday night at City Hall. Woodman's Rezoning Request Going Before Plan Commission

Construction on new grocery store could start in 2012.

The Waukesha Plan Commission will hear a request at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday  at City Hall for Woodman’s Food Market to be constructed at the former Spancrete site. The 33.7-acre property at East Main Street and Highway 164 needs to be rezoned  from a manufacturing district to a community business district. The city’s land use plan would also need to be amended by the Plan Commission from industrial to commercial use. The building plans are not yet on the Plan Commission agenda. Woodman’s Food Market is expected to open in summer of 2013 at the former Spancrete site, according to a news release from Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima.
