State Firefighters Union President Announces Candidacy For Lt. Governor

Mahlon Mitchell, a 15-year veteran of the Madison Fire Department and current president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, will run as a Democrat in recall election.

Mahlon Mitchell, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, announced Monday that he is running for lieutenant governor in the recall election against incumbent Rebecca Kleefisch. A 15-year veteran of the Madison Fire Department, Mitchell lives in Fitchburg. "I’m running because Scott Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch have destroyed and divided Wisconsin by catering to corporate special interests instead of the workingmen and women of this state," Mitchell said on his website. "Now, we need to bring our state back together and work to create the jobs tens of thousands of Wisconsinites need." Last year, when Gov. Scott Walker proposed a law that stripped most public employees of their ability to collectively bargain, Mahlon led …

UPDATE: Website of Group Organizing Recall Back Online After Cyberattack

United Wisconsin says Monday's attack was "coordinated and deliberate."

Updated at 8:35 p.m. Monday to indicate that site is back online. Just hours before the official start of the drive to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker from office, the group spearheading the effort said that its website was the victim of a cyberattack on Monday. United Wisconsin, the group working with the Wisconsin Democratic Party in the effort to recall Walker, said Monday evening that its website went down at about 2 p.m. The site was back online about six hours later. "Early this afternoon, United Wisconsin's website www.unitedwisconsin.com, was the victim of a cyber attack. The website said it would back up in time for the start of the recall at 12:01 am. Anyone with any brains knows that when a website crashes you have no control over when it comes back online. Another lame attempt by Dems to blame GOP for something that they did. And if you want an example of what the Dems do economically Milwaukee is our very own poster child of what happens when you tax citizens…   more ›

Muskego Man Pre-Empts Wisconsin Democratic Party in Recall Effort

David Brandt 'fulfills friends last request' according to papers filed, but state democrats say it's a ploy to confuse voters.

A Muskego man has filed the first request with the Government Accountability Board to recall Republican Governor Scott Walker. On the application, David Brandt indicated the reason as being "to fulfill my friend's last request." Papers were filed by Brandt registered under a committee called "Close Friends to Recall Scott Walker." The Wisconsin Democratic Party had planned on filing papers on Nov. 15 and have cried foul on the move, calling it a 'dirty trick' to "to deny democracy we have seen out of Scott Walker’s Republican Party and the extremist groups who finance his rent-to-own government," according to a release on their website. With this earlier filing, Walker can now begin raising money to defend efforts to unseat him in the …

@Tammy: We elect representatives to have intellectual debates, public hearings, etc. and then take the time to find the common ground to pass legislation that reflects the will of the people. Last February, the GOP was ramming things through with no true public input, no real discussion. Yes, yes, they went through the motions. But any reasonable person watching the situation knew that it was …   more ›

State Democrats Toss Reporter Out of Recall Walker Training Meeting

Dispute is part of ongoing feud between party spokesman and online news organization.

The battle between the spokesman for the state Democratic Party and an online news organization escalated this week when one of its reporters was booted out of a party meeting in Madison. Kirsten Adshead, a writer for the Wisconsin Reporter, said she attended a Democratic-sponsored training meeting on Tuesday night regarding the attempt to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker. The state Democratic party is holding meetings across the state to prepare for the circulation of recall petitions on Nov. 15. Adshead told Patch that she signed up for the leadership training session online, gave her name and used her wisconsinreporter.com e-mail address. When she arrived at the meeting, she told volunteers that she was a reporter. After signing in, …

Takes one to know one -- Zielinski showed up, as a 'reporter' to a Tempo Women's Group meeting that then candidate Walker was speaking at. He was greeted cordially and allowed to stay until he started harassing the members with his questions. He could have, in the name of objective journalism and transparency, allowed her to stay since she was open about who she was and why she was there. But no…   more ›
