UPDATED: Winter Storm Warning in Effect Until Noon Wednesday

Winter Storm Rocky wasn't expected to pack much of a punch in southeastern Wisconsin, but intensity of major system has upgraded initial advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for lakeside counties.

This article has been updated to reflect the upgrade of the snowfall to a Winter Storm Warning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for portions of our area. Another major winter storm, dubbed "Rocky," will stay largely south of Wisconsin, opting instead to deliver a blizzard to the central plains for the second time in less than a week. Nevertheless, the National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Weather Advisory that was initially posted to a Winter Storm Warning for lakeside counties of Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee Racine and Kenosha as well as Walworth and Washington. All other counties in much of southern Wisconsin remain under a Winter Weather Advisory, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12. Strong winds and snow will continue …

In that case I want to see the President chill out on using executive privilege, issue a freeze on spending, and a flood of democrats resigning. Maybe then we can get a heat wave to warm up the economy.   more ›

UPDATE: Up to 5 Inches of Snow Possible Late Sunday, Early Monday

Another "clipper" comes through the region later Sunday night that could make driving conditions dangerous for those coming home from Super Bowl parties.

Updated at 4 p.m. Sunday to include new times of advisories A winter weather advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service, and that could put a little wrinkle in your Super Bowl revelry plans Sunday night, if not your Monday morning commute. In Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties, the advisory will be in effect from midnight until 9 a.m. Monday. In Waukesha and Racine counties, it is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday. According to the Weather Service, snow developing as part of an "Alberta clipper" system coming down from the northwest will begin between 9 and 11 p.m. Sunday. Snow accumulations in southeastern Wisconsin are expected to reach between 2 to 5 inches on fairly light southwest winds of 5 mph to 10 mph. …

1-3 Inches of Snow Possible Tonight

It won't look like much, but snow is expected to fall throughout Friday and into Saturday, leaving some areas with as much as 5 inches. How much will Waukesha get?

Waukesha could get 1 to 3 inches of snow – and freezing drizzle – tonight into early tomorrow morning. Southeastern Wisconsin will see what the National Weather Service calls a "prolonged period of snow" on Friday, tapering off early on Saturday, putting the area's northern half under a Winter Weather Advisory until 3 a.m. Saturday.  Ozaukee, Washington and Fond du Lac counties are expected to see the most snowfall, with  3 to 5 inches forecast, while most others will pick up about 1 to 3 inches, including Waukesha. Lakeshore counties of Milwaukee and Racine may get a little help from the lake effect, giving them 2 to 4 inches. While not a full-frontal snow assault, the duration of the storm will make roads slick for much of the day, so …

Weather Alert: Wind, Snow Make Travel Less Than Happy For New Years

In our corner of the state, it's wind, but elsewhere snow advisories and warnings will make travel for New Year's hazardous.

The National Weather Service has posted a High Wind Advisory to be in effect from 9 am Sunday to midnight Sunday night for Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Walworth and Rock Counties. Strong northwest winds will arrive early Sunday morning and continue into Sunday evening, with speeds sustained at 30 mph and gusts as high as 55 mph. The major concern is that these strong winds Sunday and Sunday night will make for difficult control of lightweight or high profile vehicles, and loose objects like those air-blown holiday decorations and trash cans are likely to be blown around. If you're heading anywhere west or north in the state, the snow will also be heavier and will create visibility problems, especially as winds pick up on Sunday. A…
