Fireworks canceled despite best efforts to keep Independence Day tradition.
The Waukesha Fourth of July fireworks show came to an early ending after small grass fires began sprouting up due to severe dry conditions. Although the Waukesha Fire Department used the Waukesha County Expo grounds where the fireworks were held for pump training this week, the ground still wasn’t wet enough to prevent fire. Some fires sprouted up across the street on the north end of the expo center near Crites Field. After the show was canceled, people reacted in various ways on Waukesha Patch’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. From Facebook: From Twitter:

Waukesha Fire Department held pump training on Waukesha County Expo grounds, which also helped keep the ground wet.
Despite dry conditions and other communities considering canceling Fourth of July fireworks, Waukesha’s fireworks are planned as scheduled, according to Battalion Chief Joe Vitale. The Waukesha Fire Department held its pump training at the Waukesha County Expo Center today and plans to do so again Wednesday. The training, which helped to water the ground, was held at the expo center to “kill two birds with one stone,” Vitale explained. “Right now everything is a go,” Vitale said. Editor's Note: This column was written by Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas. Independence Day, the Fourth of July, is one of my very favorite holidays. The celebration of our great nation and the patriotism displayed on that day always fills me with pride. The community celebrations throughout Waukesha County are something to be admired. Neighbors and civic groups in many of our municipalities come together each year to celebrate American freedom. On the Fourth of July, as we share time with friends and family, it is important to remember the sacrifices of many individuals that have made our freedom possible. So many brave men and women have fought for our freedom and as we celebrate this holiday, we must recognize these individuals who…

I love the fact that we spent tax dollars on fireworks and city services to control any fires that started, when clearly it was unsafe to begin with. I guess there must be unlimited funds for stupidity and unlimited water supply when we are trying to find more sources of water for the city of Waukesha... Great job officials!   more ›
