Looking for an easy way to beat driving and parking hassles at next week’s Waukesha County Fair? Waukesha Metro Transit Route 9 will again operate service to the Waukesha County Fair for fairgoers. Metro’s Route 9-Northview will provide service to the fairgrounds Wednesday, July 18, to Saturday, July 21 from the following times: The fares are $2 for adults ages 18 and older; $1.35 for students (with a valid school ID) ages 5 –18; and $1 for elderly/disabled riders (with valid Metro ID or Medicare Card). In celebration of the Carl Zach Cycling Classic, Waukesha Metro Transit (Metro) will offer free rides on all routes and Metrolift on Sunday, June 24, courtesy of BeneCo of Wisconsin, Inc. “Metro will be the easiest, hassle free way to get around Waukesha on June 24,” said Robert Johnson, Metro Transit Director. “And the best part is everyone rides for free on June 24, thanks to BeneCo of Wisconsin, Inc,” Johnson added. Waukesha Metro Transit will rebuild engines and transmissions on city buses.
Waukesha Metro Transit was awarded $123,200 to rebuild its engines and transmissions to extended the useful lives of city buses, according to a news release from U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl. Waukesha is one of eight Wisconsin communities to receive transportation grants from $20 million in federal funding. "This new equipment will not only make transit safer and more reliable, but will also save money on fuel costs and reduce pollution," Kohl said in the news release. "Buses are a prime source of transportation in many cities throughout Wisconsin. Our current bus system is in need of repair and this funding will help update the transit systems across the state."
