Waukesha Churches Pray for Sandy Hook Elementary School

As the nation is left to grieve the loss of more than two dozen people, including 20 children, the faith community turns to prayer.

With somber words, prayers and hymns, the churches in downtown Waukesha remembered the victims of Friday’s elementary school shooting in Connecticut, the spa shooting in Brookfield, the Sikh Temple shooting in Oak Creek and the 2005 church shooting in Brookfield. Friday’s horrific shooting is a bleak reminder of the violence the southeastern Wisconsin community’s faced in recent months. Adam Lanza killed 20 children when he opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Six adults were also killed during the horrific mass shooting, including the principal at the school. Prayer Service for Newtown, CT, Tonight at Waukesha Church

The downtown Waukesha faith community is coming together to pray for those affected by the senseless tragedy.

Downtown Waukesha churches are holding a special service to pray for everyone affected by the Newtown, CT, shooting and violence worldwide at 5 p.m. tonight (Sunday). The service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Ave. Adam Lanza killed 20 children when he opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Six adults were also killed during the horrific mass shooting, including the principal at the school. Authorities have not yet determined a motive. Early reports that Lanza’s mother was a teacher at the school were incorrect.

Waukesha Church Announces New Pastor

Southminster Presbyterian Church has called the Rev. Dr. Christian Dominic Boyd as its new pastor. Boyd will preside over his first service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
