A 53,520 square-foot addition is being proposed for Shoppes at Fox River on West Sunset Drive.
A massive addition to the Shoppes at Fox River retail center on Sunset Drive in Waukesha is proposed by the developers. Opus Design-Build and Ramco Gershenson are asking the Waukesha Plan Commission to approve preliminary plans for a new 53,520-square-foot building at 1200 W. Sunset Drive. The development along West Sunset Drive started in 2008 when a tax incremental financing district was established at the former Fleming site. Pick ‘N Save, Target, Maurices, Buffalo Wild Wings and Noodles & Co. were among original tenants at the property. Ulta, Rue 21, Charming Charlie’s and T.J. Maxx joined the property last year. New grocery store, if all government approvals are given, will locate on East Sunset Drive.

Meijer, a food, clothing and home goods store, is planning to locate in a vacant parcel of land on East Sunset Drive, pending all government approvals. Construction is planed to begin in 2014 with the store opening scheduled in 2015, if everything moves forward according to the preliminary timeline. “This has been and will continue to be a team effort," said Mayor Jeff Scrima in a news release. Village Shoppe will soon be opening up their fourth and largest location in the Milwaukee area, with a new store coming to the Westbrook Shopping Center in Waukesha this Spring. The new location, at 2120 E. Moreland Blvd., will be in the former Blockbuster location and will fully occupy the 9,600 square-foot space. Village Shoppe currently operates stores at Bayshore, Grand Avenue and Southridge Mall. The Shoppe offers decorative items for home and garden, including lamps, candles, inspirational plaques, garden gnomes and seasonally themed decor. Senorita’s Beauty Boutique will open at 316 South St. in the former Beading Hearts Studio, a craft business that is no longer located in downtown Waukesha. No one was around the business Wednesday morning to talk with Patch, but a sign on the door says any visitors coming to the business on March 23 will receive a free mini soap and will be entered into a drawing for a tub gift baskets. The owners of Divino Gelato Café, Lori and Joe Lester, are looking forward to opening their fifth café this May. Divino Gelato Café already has operations in Waukesha and Racine – as well as Florida – and it will soon expand to a kiosk at Brookfield Square Mall near the food court. “I have had my eyes open at Brookfield Square for a number of years now,” Lori Lester said. “Gelato is a great product for walking. Town of Waukesha approves the new business with a drive-through window.
Dunkin’ Donuts will be allowed to open on Sunset Drive in the Town of Waukesha with a drive-through window, the Town Board decided Thursday night. A condition of the approval is to ensure Waukesha County officials do not have any restrictions on the drive-through window, according to Town of Waukesha Clerk/Treasurer Jamie Salentine. Dunkin’ Donuts will open at S30W24836 Sunset Drive. The 5,040 square foot building would house up to four retail tenants. The plans do not state what tenants would be located in the building, besides Dunkin’ Donuts. The Sunset Drive Dunkin’ Donuts will be the second to open in Waukesha recently. Superior Dairy in Canton, OH, has made a $5.5 million offer to purchase Golden Guernsey in Waukesha, Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News. The offer for purchase could make way for Golden Guernsey to re-open after a California investment firm owning the Wisconsin dairy filed bankruptcy in early January. Earlier this week, the Christmas hat was taken off the giant cow – a Waukesha icon on Delafield Street. The Christmas hat had been untouched as dairy workers were forced to leave the plant and their jobs with no warning. Waukesha bakery has been open for about two weeks on West St. Paul Avenue.
Walk into the new bakery on West St. Paul Avenue, and you will be greeted with the smell of fresh bakery items from the kitchen and Gloria Landa’s smiling face. When Buttercream Bakery opened two weeks ago, it made its return to Waukesha after being closed for several years. Landa and her husband, Francisco Flores, previously owned a bakery on East Main Street but closed in 2008 because of parking problems and the small space, she said. “We decided to close and put all of our equipment in storage,” Landa said.
