The following volunteer opportunities are available through the United Way of Waukesha County: Senior Dining Centers Assistance Give your energy to Aging and Disability Resource Center’s Senior Dining Centers by helping set up meals, serving meals, packing up home delivered meals, and cleaning up. Volunteers can help once a week or twice a month from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Various locations are available. Share a Hobby, Talent, or Expertise Volunteer with the Salvation Army to visit with students that vary from grades K through 8. Volunteer Opportunities with United Way of Waukesha County

From pancake breakfasts to daffodil sales, these area organizations are seeking help.

To sign up for any of these volunteer opportunities or to learn more about volunteering, check out the United Way Volunteer Center. The following volunteer opportunities are available through the United Way of Waukesha County: Produce Bagging and Boxing with SHARE (Butler) Help count and bag produce into individual portions for SHARE members on Jan. 23 and Feb. 20. This is a fun opportunity and all ages from school-age children (with adult supervision) to seniors are welcome. The project is simple and repetitive. Stand or sit at raised tables with other volunteers while bagging. Lifting not required and groups are welcome. Groups receive a tour, SHARE story and group photo. A secondary box assembly project occurs during this time as well. …

United Way Seeks Volunteer Award Nominations

United Way in Waukesha County seeks nominations for its ‘Inspire by Example’ Volunteer Awards, which recognize individuals and groups who have performed outstanding volunteer service within Waukesha County in the past year. The nomination deadline is Friday, Jan. 27, 2012. Nominations are sought within four categories: A panel of community leaders, independent of United Way, will review all nominations and select one winner for each of the four Award Categories who ‘Inspires by Example.’ Awards will be presented by United Way in Waukesha County at the annual ‘Inspire by Example’ Award Ceremony & Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, April 17, 2012. The following volunteer opportunities are available through the United Way of Waukesha County: Going the Extra Mile Has It’s Own Reward with ADRC The Aging and Disability Resource Center has an urgent need for home delivered meal drivers to help once a week or twice a month, weekdays. Getting these meals allow older adults to live in their own homes longer. Areas needing some help are Butler, Oconomowoc, Mukwonago, Menomonee Falls and New Berlin. Remembrance of 9-11 Volunteers Showed up Big in Waukesha County

Inspired by National Day of Service and Remembrance, the United Way Volunteer Center set a goal to record 911 volunteer hours during the month of September as a means to pay tribute to the now historic milestone date of Sept. 11. The result: volunteer efforts surpassed the agency’s goal by nearly ten fold, states a news release from the agency. “More than 9,111 volunteer hours were reported to us by 22 agencies throughout Waukesha County,” said Lori Hayes, Division Manager of the Volunteer Center, “and that doesn’t include the countless agencies that advertise volunteer opportunities.” The top agencies turning heads with more than 1,000 volunteer hours each include The Women’s Center, National MS Society, Hope Center and Waukesha County …

Area Restaurants Donating Proceeds Toward United Way

United We Dine program helps area non-profit organizations.

Sixteen restaurants throughout Waukesha County are partnering with United Way for ‘United We Dine,’ a program that gives local businesses the opportunity to support the community by donating a percentage of their customers’ purchases to the United Way campaign, states a news release from United Way. United We Dine program events will take place throughout the next several weeks. Those interested in demonstrating their support for the community’s United Way campaign are encouraged to visit the restaurants listed below and partake in the program activities. Donald Driver Honors Dedicated United Way of Waukesha County Donors

The shouts of “Go Pack, Go” resonated throughout the crowd as No. 80 himself moved toward the crowd at a garden party on a lake in Waukesha County. Despite Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver being a guest speaker Monday night during Champions in Giving, the true stars of the night were the more than 200 supporters of the United Way of Waukesha County, who attended the event. More than 493 people regularly give $1,000 or more to the non-profit organization each year, and a special night was held in their honor. "This is a recognition for all those givers, from $1,000 all the way up,” said Michelle DuBord, director of investor relations & communications at United Way of Waukesha County.
