Town of Brookfield Police Officer Dies On Duty

Officer Donald Bishop dies Saturday from an apparent heart attack while responding to a call of a burglary in progress.

A 32-year-old Town of Brookfield police officer and former dispatcher with the Waukesha County Communications Center died Saturday morning of an apparent heart while responding to a burglary call. Officer Donald Bishop joined the Town of Brookfield Police Department in August 2011, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News. In addition to working as a county dispatcher, Bishop also was an officer for the Village of Eagle, the station reported. Read more on the WISN 12 News website.

Questions Raised About Viability of Town Financing Plan for The Corners Project

County and school officials concerned about whether major retail-office-housing project at the I-94/Barker Road exit could repay $37 million in debt — plus interest — in a required 16-year deadline. If not, taxpayers could be on the hook.

A review panel Tuesday raised concerns about the viability of a proposed $37 million Town of Brookfield public financing plan intended to help spur a major retail-office-housing redevelopment. Representatives of Waukesha County, the Waukesha School District and Waukesha County Technical College questioned whether the ambitious project, which would include Wisconsin's first Von Maur store, could generate enough tax revenue to pay $37 million in town debt by a 2028 deadline. The five-member panel has to sign off on the creation of the taxing district, which is a key part of the plans for the project. Woman Accused of Stealing Identity of University of Phoenix Employee

Suspect took personal checks in the wallet to Walmart where she bought cigarettes, a laptop and gold necklace.

A Waukesha woman allegedly stole a wallet from the University of Phoenix, then used the victim’s personal information to buy $800 in goods from Walmart. Carolyn L. Koehler, 48, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with two counts of uttering a forgery and one count of identity theft for financial gain. If convicted, she faces up to 18 years in prison and $30,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: On Feb. 1, a University of Phoenix employee contacted Town of Brookfield police after she discovered her wallet had gone missing from her purse several days earlier. Waukesha Man Changes Prescription From Cane to Oxycodone

Man took forged prescription to Sam's Club in the Town of Brookfield, but police were waiting for him when he picked up the pills, a criminal complaint alleges.

A Waukesha man tried to pass a forged prescription for pain killers after his physician's script was altered to authorize Oxycodone instead of a walking cane, a criminal complaint alleges. Nicholas M. Graefe, 31, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: Town of Brookfield police on Dec. 19 were called to Sam’s Club after Graefe dropped off a prescription for Oxycodone, and the pharmacist called the doctor who said the presciption originally had been written for a walking cane. Waukesha Man Charged With 5th OWI

Suspect was caught speeding through Town of Brookfield with no license in his car.

A 40-year-old Waukesha man is facing his fifth drunk driving charge after he was caught speeding through Town of Brookfield. Derek B. Asunto was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Monday with one count of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated, one count of felony bail jumping and two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 13 ½ years in prison and $40,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: At 4:54 p.m. Saturday, a Town of Brookfield police officer on patrol spotted Asunto accelerating quickly on northbound Barker Road near Davidson Road. Town of Brookfield Businesses Pledge Not to Annex To Cities

At least 80 property owners sign non-annexation agreements in exchange for not being charged a total of $356,000 in special assessments.

At least 80 Town of Brookfield businesses and institutions have signed pledges to not annex into neighboring cities for the next 20 years, in exchange for not having to pay special assessments for a new town water tower. Those 80 property owners had been charged special assessments totaling $356,949, or about 44 percent of the total assessments billed for the water tower project. Another 43 property owners have expressed interest in signing the non-annexation agreement but have not yet done so, Town Clerk Jane Carlson said. Seven owners have paid their assessments, declining to sign the pledges.
