After placing high in a number of events, ten swimmers from area Waukesha schools will be competing this weekend at the state meet.
Ten Waukesha swimmers qualified to compete this weekend at the WIAA Division 1 State Meet in Madison after placing high in a number of events at sectional. Over the weekend the co-op Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine placed second at sectional with a score of 313. Trailing right behind in third place was Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial with a score of 295. The Blackshirts beat Arrowhead High School by just six points to secure the state championship title.
The Waukesha South/Mukwonago girls swim team took home a state championship title this weekend. The Blackshirts beat second-place team Arrowhead High School by six points with a final score of 279-273. The Blackshirts beat Arrowhead by two points in 2011, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle, Abby Jagdfeld took first place with Molly Manchon placing second. Kaersten Meitz took first in the 500-yard freestyle with Natalie Clausen taking third.The team took third in the 200-yard and first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Jagdfeld, Manchon, Meitz and Alicia Beam.

Idle Isle Park, Muskego This 7-acre island park offers fishing, a boat launch and parking, swimming and a picnic and playground area. The Pavilion will feature Island Ice Cream beginning June 22, and on Wednesday evenings the Water Bugs Show Ski Team performs at 6:30 p.m. The park is open from dawn until dusk seven days a week. Unfortunately, the beaches in Waukesha County won't be open for the steamy weather Monday. Read the details on when the local watering holes will open.
With temperatures forecast to hit 90 Monday for the second straight day, it would be nice to hit the local beach on a holiday day off from school and work. No such luck, because Waukesha County's beaches don't open until Saturday. The county's summer 2012 beach hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends, with lifeguards on duty daily. County Park entrance fees are $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends and holidays. Annual park entrance stickers cost $27 for county residents, $38 for non-county residents and $14 for senior citizens.
