This May weather may not be perfect but at least it's not like it was on May 10, 1990.
A retired Waukesha forester spoke with Patch media partner WISN 12 News about the snow storm that hit Waukesha on May 10, 1990. "When I think about May 10, I start perspiring heavily, and I think the term I used once we got out and were assessing what was going on, I think I called the storm 'devastatingly spectacular,'" David Liska, who was Waukesha's forester for nearly four decades, told WISN 12. As the snow is falling throughout Waukesha, it almost looks like Christmas.
Christmas has come and gone, but Waukesha's looking like a winter wonderland with the recent snowfall. It's been a weird couple of days for weather this week. It was an unusually warm January day in Tuesday as temperatures reached the upper 50s. But with the warm day came a rain storm and flood watches. And Wednesday, it is back to upper 20s with snowfall expected between 1 and 3 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Bundle up Thursday, because temperatures are expected to reach a high of 13.

It won't look like much, but snow is expected to fall throughout Friday and into Saturday, leaving some areas with as much as 5 inches. How much will Waukesha get?
Waukesha could get 1 to 3 inches of snow – and freezing drizzle – tonight into early tomorrow morning. Southeastern Wisconsin will see what the National Weather Service calls a "prolonged period of snow" on Friday, tapering off early on Saturday, putting the area's northern half under a Winter Weather Advisory until 3 a.m. Saturday. Ozaukee, Washington and Fond du Lac counties are expected to see the most snowfall, with 3 to 5 inches forecast, while most others will pick up about 1 to 3 inches, including Waukesha. Waukesha Police Department responds to five property damage car accidents Thursday afternoon.
Pizza Hut on Summit Avenue didn’t want to have a drive-through service. But when a silver SUV vehicle crashed into the building Thursday night, Pizza Hut was upgraded to drive through status. Waukesha Patch reader Adam Kindred provided the photo of the crash. The Waukesha Police Department responded to the report of the accident with the windows broken and the wall smashed in at 4:48 p.m. Thursday. Limited information was available about the call, but the police officer on scene requested a camera for photographs. Weather is likely to blame for outages affecting customers in Waukesha County.
9:15 p.m. Thursday: Less than 10 people remain without power after WE Energies restored power to more than 1,000 customers in Waukesha. 6:45 p.m. Thursday: More than 1,000 We Energies customers in Waukesha were without power Thursday night after a winter storm hit Waukesha County. As of 6 p.m., We Energies reported that power outages had affected about 1,140 customers north of East Main Street near Manhattan Drive. The cause of the power failure is under investigation, but it appears to be weather related. A spokesman for We Energies could not be reached for comment Thursday night. Interstate 94 crash reported near Highway 164 in Waukesha due to wintery conditions.
Waukesha County is under a winter weather advisory until 9 p.m. Tuesday as snow is falling in the area. A crash on Interstate 94 has blocked traffic. “The snow will mix with rain at times across far southeast Wisconsin but still should lead to slushy accumulations for the evening commute,” according to the National Weather Service. The area is under a winter storm watch for Thursday with 4-6 inches predicted for the area, according to the NWS.

Two chances exist for our first 'real snow' of the season and include a potential for 4-6 inches on Sunday, but meteorologists say confidence is not high, which means a record for snowless days could be set instead.
Records are made to be broken, and our snow-less streak could break the old record (set in 1999) of 279 consecutive days without a measurable snowfall. As of Thursday, the Milwaukee area has gone 277 days since the last day with measurable snow, which is the 3rd longest streak on record. The last time Milwaukee had measurable snow was on March 4, 2012, when 0.9 inch was measured. For many, that's good news. However, don't get too comfortable. While we could be able to add more days to the streak and tie for 2nd place on Friday (278 days, previously set in 1908) the next chance for some snow also comes on Friday night. The National Weather Service expects wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph during Friday's blizzard, causing low visibility and hazardous driving conditions.
