Work will begin on March 4 and continue until mid-May for the addition of an auxiliary lane of traffic between 25th and 37th street. Some lane and ramp closures began Wednesday, and on Friday and Saturday I-894 will be closed completely from the Zoo Interchange to National Avenue for demolition of Greenfield Ave. overpass.
The first major freeway closures are set for the Zoo Interchange reconstruction project, centered on the Greenfield Avenue overpass, which will be demolished and rebuilt, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) announced. Lane and ramp closings began Wednesday morning and are not limited to the immediate area of Greenfield Avenue. For instance, as noted below, the southbound ramp onto I-894 from eastbound I-94 is closed on Wednesday; the ramp from westbound I-94 onto I-894 south will be closed Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, I-894 will be completely closed from the Zoo Interchange south to National Avenue. Actual demolition of the overpass is scheduled for this weekend. From the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Although most major road construction projects have concluded for the year, drivers traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday may encounter some ongoing work and should be prepared for orange barrels, lane shifts, and reduced speeds. A $14.1 million reconstruction of Bluemound Road from Moorland to Barker roads is substantially complete, paving the way for greater economic growth, including the relocation of Willis insurance to an office park on that key corridor, officials said Wednesday. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation warns motorists to be prepared for construction slow-downs on Route 41 heading to the EAA convention in Oshkosh.
From a Wisconsin Department of Transportation press release: The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region is reminding motorists heading to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, that while US 41 road construction may be taking a brief break during the annual event in Winnebago County, drivers will still encounter road conditions in work zones that could cause backups, requiring patience and advanced planning. The week-long event is being held July 23-29 at Wittman Regional Airport. People driving to the event should allow extra time to navigate construction along US 41 between Breezewood Lane in Neenah and 9th Avenue in Oshkosh.
