End of the World: Waukesha Businesses Hold Doomsday Parties

Area businesses plan "end of the world" events as the Mayan calendar comes to an end.

Do you think something big is in store for Dec. 21, 2012? So do several local businesses, which have scheduled 'end of the world' events to coincide with the turning of the Mayan calendar this Friday.  If you are really worried the world will end Friday, check out what NASA has to say about the Mayan predictions, planetary alignment and more. Nice Ash Cigar Bar The Nice Ash is holding "Ashageddon" Friday night. "Ask for your free nasty shot of tequila and then pray that the Mayans were right," states the bar's website. Montecito Montecito is holding an "End of the World Party" in downtown Waukesha. One Year To Live

If various indicators are correct, we're due to check out in 366 days. What to do with our last year on earth?

Depending on your perspective, we're standing on the precipice of doomsday or a spiritual Super Bowl. Bible code scholars, the Mayan calendar, and even some scientists who watch the sun carefully say that we're in for something on December 12, 2012 (or for you numerology buffs 12/21/2012, which is a lot of ones and twos). I don't know what to think of all of this, except that it is more than mildly interesting that so many different cultures and beliefs are pointing to this date. It also begs the question (and come on, you've thought it too) what IS going to happen one year from now? My thoughts of what a cataclysmic end to the world spans the trivial to the morose. On one hand, I will finally be debt-free because civilization will cease …
