Recount in April 2 election gives Alderman Roger Patton one more vote over Lenny Miller.
Roger Patton gained one more vote during Friday’s recount of the April 2 election, officially winning re-election. Patton defeated Lenny Miller – who also challenged him in April 2012 – 203 to 195 votes. Miller was surprised by the results on April 2, he said, because people he had spoken with during the election shared their hopes for a new alderman in the downtown district. “I just want to rule out any machine errors and human errors,” Miller told Patch last week. “I don’t suspect fraud or anything, I just want to make sure everything was done and that no mistakes were made.”

Has the flooding reached the three bears in downtown Waukesha yet?
Homes along the Fox River on Bethesda Court in Waukesha are experiencing flooding problems. Six to seven homes have 2 feet to 3 feet deep water resting in the back yards, according to the National Weather Service. Flood stage for the Fox River is 6 feet. As of early Thursday afternoon, the water was 6.5 feet. If the water reaches 6.8 feet, the banks in Frame Park will overflow, according to the National Weather Service. The flood warning remains in effect until the river falls below 6 feet. As for the bears and the dragonfly? The dragonfly statue is almost completely covered in water. Water is nearing the smallest bear along the riverwalk.

The recount between District 11 aldermanic candidates Lenny Miller and Roger Patton will be held Friday. The downtown district election was close. Patton defeated Miller by seven votes after the official canvassing was recorded 202 votes for Patton and 195 votes for Miller. Miller picked up one vote last week after an absentee ballot came into City Hall, according to interim Clerk/Treasurer Gina Kozlik. Sen. Marco Rubio says there has not yet been an agreement on immigration reform legislation.
Dozens of people heading to Washington, D.C., this week to fight for immigration reform rallied in downtown Waukesha before traveling across the country. The national rally will feature thousands of people fighting for a path to citizenship for undocumented/illegal immigrants, according to the Huffington Post. Fifty-nine percent of property owners remained on petition to dissolve the downtown Waukesha taxing district after two months.
The Waukesha Business Improvement District will officially disband after more than 59 percent of the property owners in downtown Waukesha want the special taxing district gone – despite attempts to save the BID. The petition to dissolve the BID was presented two months ago. Despite public hearings, attempts to change the operating plan and a major property owner withdrawing from the petition, owners representing $31.6 million remained on the petition, according to Community Development Director Steve Crandell. One hundred properties were on the petition – a total of 154 properties are in the district. There are still enough property owners on the petition to dissolve the Waukesha Business Improvement District – unless more remove their name by Friday's deadline.
Property owners who signed a petition to dissolve the Waukesha Business Improvement District have until Friday to remove their names from the petition or the process moves forward. As of Thursday morning, officials with The Clarke Hotel removed the hotel property from the petition, according to Steve Crandell, community development director. But that isn’t enough to stop the process. Without The Clarke Hotel on the petition, 58.7 percent of property owners remain on the petition to disband the BID. The petition was filed Feb. 5 after controversies and resignations plagued the board. As the weather has become more mild, the Waukesha GuitarTown has moved the giant guitars outside for the warm season.
There's something a little different about downtown Waukesha this week. The Waukesha GuitarTown guitars were moved outside on Monday as the cold, snowy winter has left and spring is here – even if it is still cold outside. The guitars are in various locations in downtown Waukesha. And the fun is only just beginning. The Waukesha GuitarTown will unveil phase two of the public arts project in June. Currently, artists are working on the large guitars and on the smaller playable guitars that will be on display throughout downtown Waukesha. Gibson Guitars gave Waukesha a GuitarTown distinction because Waukesha is the birthplace of Les Paul – the Wizard of Waukesha.
