Honor Flight to Help Korean War Veterans, Too

Stars and Stripes Honor Flight is also announcing a limited edition DVD sales of its documentary film Honor Flight; the movie will hit retail stores this May.

Editor's note: The following information was taken from a press release provided by Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. Stars and Stripes Honor Flight is transitioning its mission in 2013 to also fly Korean War veterans to see their memorials in Washington, DC.   "These Korean War veterans are often known as the 'forgotten ones from the forgotten war.' Well, they are forgotten no longer," said Joe Dean, Chairman of Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.  According to Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, there are currently 40,000 Korean War era veterans living in Wisconsin. (There are 27,000 WWII veterans living in the state.) Thanks to overwhelming community support, Stars and Stripes Honor Flight will be able to continue flying veterans once …

55,000 Viewers Later: Honor Flight Film Continues to Make History

Director Dan Hayes, a native of Wauwatosa, remembers the "electricity" in the air when the documentary set a record for largest film screening in history over the summer — and looks forward to continuing on with the film's journey.

After a second stint back on the big screen in Marcus theatres across Wisconsin, the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight documentary has touched the lives of more than 55,000 viewers, Honor Flight officials say. The Stars and Stripes Honor Flight Facebook page is chock full of comments from people in the Milwaukee area who saw the film this week, offering gracious praise about the power of the film's message. "I believe people recognize that —  in a way — these heroes are the new Ghost Soldiers. Now you see them, now you don't," Stars and Stripes Honor Flight founder Joe Dean said. "Over 1,000 WWII heroes die every single day in this country. It is beyond our ability to describe how grateful we are that so many people recognize this fleeting …

Dad served in the South Pacific during WWII. He died this past April just 10 days short of his 96th birthday. Three naval officers presented us with an American flag and a wonderful gun salute at his grave site. It was so appropriate and touching. I'm very glad that Honor Flight is happening now, as there just aren't many of these noble veterans left. God bless America and all it stands for!   more ›
