David LaBorde, the interim Waukesha West High School principal, will remain at Waukesha West High School next school year. LaBorde was unanimously hired by the Waukesha School Board to be the full-time, permanent principal at Waukesha West. “He is focused on student success,” said Board Member Steve Edlund while reading through LaBorde’s list of qualifications. LaBorde started serving as interim principal at the school in January. He previously served as principal at New Berlin West High School. LaBorde retired in 2009, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. No details provided on the resignation of David Towers, whose last day with Waukesha School District was Friday.
Waukesha West High School Principal David Towers has resigned for “personal reasons,” effective immediately, after being at the school for about 1-1/2 years. Towers’ resignation was announced via a letter to parents from Superintendent Todd Gray. “We regret that we do not have any other information to share with you at this time,” Gray said in the letter. “Mr. Towers offers his thanks and appreciation to the West High parents and community for your support over the last year and a half.” Towers started as principal at Waukesha West High School in August 2011. He served as an associate principal at Germantown High School from 2009-11. Previously, he was an assistant principal at Germantown. Waukesha School District staff are developing a …

New high school schedule at Waukesha North, Waukesha South and Waukesha West allows for students to take advantage of smaller classes.
It’s only a few weeks into the school year, but students at all three Waukesha public high schools have settled into the new schedule change. The schedule was designed to provide academic options for students who are struggling with reading and math to give them a concentrated time to help them improve their skills. Students who are not in the academic options classes get a slightly later start to their school day. “It is a half-hour time for teachers to really work with these kids in very small class sizes,” said Waukesha South High School Principal Timothy Joynt. While its too early to provide hard data about the results of the academic options, Joynt described the smaller class sizes as “phenomenal” because of the engagement involved…

Principal David Towers is "proud" of the students at Waukesha West High School who are following the rules despite their feelings about the backpack policy changes.
Despite threats from students to revolt over the backpack ban at Waukesha West High School, the first week of school went well, according to Principal David Towers. “Students were great, and they complied,” Tower said. “I think with the new schedule, they were busy with that. They did a really good job of following the rules and adjusting. I can’t thank them enough for their great behavior.” While students and parents were upset about the changes, most followed the rules. Still, a few Waukesha West students bragged on Facebook that they were able to sneak their backpacks into classes without getting caught. The rule was changed this school year in attempts to keep people from tripping over the bags or purses and to cut down on contraband …

But Waukesha West High School administration is changing the policy for safety and to keep contraband items from school.
Students at Waukesha West High School are unhappy that the school’s forcing them to keep their backpacks and purses in their locker during the school day. The new policy, which goes into effect the school year beginning Tuesday, allows students to carry a small pencil case and a form-fitting laptop or iPad case for electronic devices, according to a letter to parents and students from Principal David Towers. “I understand this may initially be viewed as an inconvenience for our students, but after careful consideration with our students’ safety and security being our first priority, this is the policy that will be enforced,” Towers wrote in an Aug. 17 letter. “We also recognize that special accommodations may need to be made, and those …

Senior Sara DeMaster spends her days helping others while keeping a close eye on a younger brother with severe disabilities.
Waukesha West High School senior Sara DeMaster has an impressive resume of community involvement and volunteer activities, in addition to sports and clubs. But there’s another, more personal job, that shows her spirit in action every day. Principal David Towers described her as the “go-to” girl just over a month into his first year at the school. Sara is a captain for pom and dance, lacrosse and color guard. She is on student council and has played a lead role in organizing homecoming activities and as a student representative to the Board of Education. She also leads a Bible study on Friday mornings, is a yearbook editor and mentors freshman. “I really love helping,” said Sara. Despite her hectic schedule, Sara has another important job …

Collaboration between Waukesha School District and Waukesha Police Department to bring cops in schools starts its 10th year.
An honest teen made a big impression on Steve Guth, the school resource officer at Waukesha West High School, last school year when he did the right thing at a school dance. The teen found a $100 bill laying on the floor and picked it up. Instead of pocketing the money, he took it straight to the school resource officer and an assistant principal. “I just thought that was pretty cool,” Guth said. “Anybody can ask themselves what they would do if they found a $100 bill on the ground. He chose to turn it in." Guth is one of three school resource officers who are stationed in Waukesha public schools this year. The program is in its 10th school year after starting during the 2001-02 school year. Guth began as the school resource officer at …
