Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and runs up to Easter.
This year Lent commences with Ash Wednesday, February 13 and lasts until Holy Thursday evening, March 30. Lent is marked by many Christians in the 40-day run-up to Easter. Often considered a time to practice sacrifice, many Catholics for years gave up eating meat on Fridays. Trinity United Church of Christ will celebrate a historical milestone by dedicating a stained glass window from its original church building.
Past will meet present in a very special ceremony this Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 4435 North Calhoun Road, in Brookfield. Immediately following the church’s 10 a.m. service, the congregation will formally dedicate a 100-year-old stained glass window that was installed in the congregation’s original church building in 1912. The ceremony will be followed by the normal benediction and a reception in the church’s Gathering Place. The ceremony, which will only take about five minutes, will have great significance in the context of the church’s long and distinguished history. RiverPark Community Church wants to operate in Goerkes Park Business Center, but town's zoning doesn't allow religious institutions in business districts.
Spurred by a church that wants to open in Goerkes Park Business Center, the Town of Brookfield Plan Commission on Tuesday endorsed adding churches as conditional uses in business districts. RiverPark Community Church, which shares space in the Excellence Center at N4W22000 Blue Mound Road in Waukesha, wants to lease its own space in the Goerkes Park Business Center south of Watertown Road. "It's just an excellent location," Pastor Jeff Stupar told commissioners. He said the 9,798-square-foot space in the rear of the business park's 20711 building has been vacant for two years, so opening a non-profit church there would not be removing tax revenue. RiverPark wants to upgrade the space to accommodate its Sunday services which run from 9 a.m…
