Jennifer Podhora, 28, of Waukesha, had a tremendous impact on the Elmbrook middle school students she worked with before she passed away from cancer.

Last September, the students in Jennifer Podhora’s classes were thrilled their teacher was back at Wisconsin Hills Middle School. She had started at the Brookfield middle school in September 2011 but her year of teaching was cut short because she needed cancer treatment. She stepped away from the school in spring 2012, focused on her health and was told she was cancer free last summer. “Kids are amazing in that they will always rally around someone in need,” said Principal Robyn Martino. “I think they felt like they were truly instrumental in making her smile. … She definitely made a difference in the kids’ lives.” The victory was short lived. Carroll Students Fundraise To Pay For Lockdown Citation

A Carroll University student started raising money online for the man who was cited for disorderly conduct after a misunderstanding caused a lockdown because he was seen carrying an airsoft gun.

A Carroll University student wants to raise money to pay the fine for the man who caused a campus-wide lockdown after he was walking across campus with an airsoft gun. Emily Kammerud started a fundraising account through gofundme.com to help pay for the $303 fine that comes with the disorderly conduct citation Michael Wiedemann received.  Authorities say Wiedemann, 50, found the gun in the trash, took it home and planned to give or sell it to a friend. He apologized for the misunderstanding. "It'll never happen again," he told TMJ4. "It was a dumb mistake on my dumb part and I'll never do it again." A 50-year-old man carrying an airsoft gun through campus prompted a gun scare in Waukesha on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old man who caused a campus-wide lockdown at Carroll University after he was walking across campus with an airsoft gun that resembles a rifle was cited for disorderly conduct, Capt. Ron Oremus told Patch on Wednesday. The fine for a municipal citation of disorderly conduct is $303, according to Oremus. He will not face criminal charges. Oremus identified the man as Michael Wiedemann. "He said he found the gun in a garbage and was walking back to his apartment," Oremus said in an email. Man With Airsoft Gun Causes Lockdown at Carroll University, Area Schools

Tactical units from the Waukesha Police Department and Waukesha County Sheriff's Department helped bring one person into custody, although the investigation is ongoing.

A man who police say was walking around the Carroll University campus Tuesday with an airsoft-style gun is in custody following an incident that resulted in 90-minute lockdown at the college and surrounding schools. The lockdown was put into place around 10:30 a.m., after Waukesha received a call from from Carroll security saying that several students reported seeing a man in his 50s or 60s carrying a shotgun or rifle on the northwest side of the campus, police said. By noon, the suspect — a 50-year-old Waukesha man — was located off campus in an apartment building within blocks of the incident, and was taken into custody without incident.
