PHOTOS: Storm Puts Damper on County Fair

The much needed thunderstorm cut the Waukesha County Fair short by a few hours, shutting down the rides and closing the stands.

The afternoon started perfectly at the Waukesha County fair grounds Wednesday afternoon, but the forecast quickly turned dark as black clouds billowed over residents around 7 p.m. Fair officials announced over the loud speakers at 6 p.m. that a severe weather watch was in effect, and people at the event should seek shelter in the expo center. Before long, officials were making the rounds to stands telling them to close-up for the evening, as extremely high winds and thunderstorms were confirmed to be rolling through at any minute. So, while fairgoers enjoyed the party while it lasted, it was cut short around 8 p.m. This is what you should know for the rest of the week at the fair. Special Days Main Stage Midway Specials

Freezing Rain, Snow to Hit the Area Through Friday

The National Weather Service has issued several advisories for the area.

Waukesha County remains in a freezing rain advisory until 9 a.m. Thursday. According to the National Weather Service, light and freezing rain will continue to cause hazardous driving conditions, with ice accumulations of up to an inch.  The area is also under a hazardous weather outlook through Thursday night and possibly into Friday morning. Low pressure passing through southern parts of Wisconsin could bring a mixture of light rain and snow.  The snowfall is expected to stop late Friday morning, though 1 to 2 inches is possible. On Sunday and Monday, deep low pressure coming across the Great Lakes may turn into a wind advisory for the area.
