Hannah Rohde of Waukesha West was the dominant performer at Thursday's sectional at North, but all three city schools are sending athletes to state.
Hannah Rohde of Waukesha West captured all three sprint titles Thursday at the Waukesha North girls track and field sectional. See complete sectional results West was third as a team but had six overall champions — in addition to Rohde, Emma Langer won the 800 and the 3,200 and 1,600 relay teams were winners. Madison Ricciardi of Waukesha North won the 300 hurdles and also is headed to state in the 100 hurdles. Waukesha South had two qualifiers. State qualifiers were: WAUKESHA SOUTH WAUKESHA WEST WAUKESHA NORTH Other individuals may also qualify based on time and the entire field will be released before the state meet, May 31-June 1 in La Crosse.
South had the best team performance, while Dylan Chmura of West took home two first-place awards at Thursday's sectional at Waukesha North.

Catholic Memorial High School senior is overcoming his own disability while working to save the lives of other children through his fundraising efforts.
Andy Stasik’s dreams of owning a golf course go beyond the love of the game. For Andy, golf’s been his one and only shot at being a high school athlete. “It is a game that you can play all your life,” Andy said. “With my medical problems, I have been actually able to play golf, unlike other sports. I got really into it.” Andy, a Muskego resident, was about 1 years old when he was diagnosed with severe combined immune deficiency. As a young baby, his upper body muscles were attacked, leaving permanent damage “I lost most of my muscles in my hands,” Andy said. “I can’t open my hands at all.” But he hasn’t let his disability slow him down toward his path to graduation. Andy will receive his diploma at Catholic Memorial High School on Sunday…

SCORE Complex in Racine hosts the 2013 National High School Rugby Girls Championships, and DHSA and Catholic Memorial are among the eight finalists.
Nine girls from Waukesha are participating this Saturday and Sunday in the 2013 National High School Rugby Girls Championships at the SCORE Complex in Franksville, WI. All nine are students at Waukesha Catholic Memorial, which is seeded fourth in the eight-team Division 1 tournament. They are: Also from Waukesha is head coach John Waliszewski. Catholic Memorial is seeded No. 4 in the Division 1 tournament and opens against Summit, CO, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Also in the tournament is Divine Savior Holy Angels, a six-time national champion. DSHA faces Amazons of California at 10:15 Saturday in an opening-round match. The championship match at 12:30 p.m. Sunday will be streamed live online.

The number of suspensions statewide have dropped consecutively for five years; find out what the low is now, and check out some local data.
When it comes to the number of suspensions given at Waukesha high schools, which school was the worst offender in 2011-12? All three high schools in Waukesha’s suspension rates are above the state average. Statewide, 5.21 percent of students were suspended at least once during the year. This is the lowest percentage since data was kept beginning in 1998-99, and the figure has dropped five consecutive years. The rates are: The 10th grade class at Waukesha West High School were the worst offenders in Waukesha high schools in 2011-12, according to the Department of Public Instruction information. Jennifer Podhora, 28, of Waukesha, had a tremendous impact on the Elmbrook middle school students she worked with before she passed away from cancer.
Last September, the students in Jennifer Podhora’s classes were thrilled their teacher was back at Wisconsin Hills Middle School. She had started at the Brookfield middle school in September 2011 but her year of teaching was cut short because she needed cancer treatment. She stepped away from the school in spring 2012, focused on her health and was told she was cancer free last summer. “Kids are amazing in that they will always rally around someone in need,” said Principal Robyn Martino. “I think they felt like they were truly instrumental in making her smile. … She definitely made a difference in the kids’ lives.” The victory was short lived. The cancer came back last fall and Podhora again left Wisconsin Hills Middle School. She was …
