Volunteer Opportunities with United Way of Waukesha County

From pancake breakfasts to daffodil sales, these area organizations are seeking help.

Produce Bagging and Boxing with SHARE (Butler)
Help count and bag produce into individual portions for SHARE members on Jan. 23 and Feb. 20. This is a fun opportunity and all ages from school-age children (with adult supervision) to seniors are welcome. The project is simple and repetitive. Stand or sit at raised tables with other volunteers while bagging. Lifting not required and groups are welcome. Groups receive a tour, SHARE story and group photo. A secondary box assembly project occurs during this time as well. Project finish times vary. Lunch is served at noon. Requirements: Ability to follow instructions and be consistently accurate. Minimum age without adult supervision is 13. Individuals can volunteer for any block of time within our work day. Half-day shifts are recommended for groups.

Waukesha County Daffodils Program Sales Coordinator with American Cancer Society (Pewaukee)
We are looking for a volunteer to coordinate orders and donations for this inspirational event. Daffodil Days involves offering daffodils to donors in appreciation for their contributions. Orders and donations are taken throughout December, January and February for various Daffodil Days products. The fresh daffodils are delivered during the week of March 12-16, 2012. It is about sharing hope for a world with less cancer and more birthdays, where cancer never steals another year from anyone’s life. Daffodil Days is a fun and easy way to get local community members and businesses involved with the American Cancer Society.

Music Remedy Volunteer with Horizon Home Care and Hospice (Waukesha)
Mend hearts and bring peace to hospice patients and families with your musical talent. Horizon knows firsthand how the serenity of music positively impacts those in their final stages of life. This special volunteer role is convenient for your schedule and travel needs, depending on how and when you can make yourself available. You may share your talents with in-home hospice patients or community facilities throughout all of southeastern Wisconsin. Volunteers are matched by proximity and request and must be comfortable with those facing end of life challenges and be able to play a musical instrument.

Special Projects and Marketing Intern with United Way in Waukesha County (Waukesha)
Our Investor Relations department is looking for a Special Projects and Marketing intern for January-May 2012.  Major project areas include assistance with our annual “Champions in Giving” event, and our “United We Dine” program. Intern would also assist with incentive solicitation, various press releases to media, and would be responsible for creating and organizing print/visual materials as needed. This is an unpaid internship, but would provide numerous benefits to the right person! Minimum age is 18. Individual should have background in areas of marketing/communications or related field.

Provide a Meal for Homeless Men: Salvation Army in Waukesha
Sunday dinners are needed for men staying at the Waukesha County Overflow Shelter. Volunteers would prepare the meal ahead of time and bring it to the shelter located in the former West Suburban Christian Academy located on the corner of Northview and Grandview roads in Waukesha. 30-35 men are expected to be residing at the shelter each evening. Please call Cathi to schedule at 262-522-1403. Volunteers must be 18 or older or accompanied by a parent. Volunteers must purchase and prepare the food ahead of time; there will be no facilities on site to prepare the food.

Web Design Maestro: Good Friend, Inc in Waukesha
Our website has been lovingly created and maintained by the same volunteer for more that four years. It's time to mix it up a little! He'd like to turn the reins over to someone with enthusiasm, attention for detail, and knowledge on how to take what we have to the next level. We need to revamp our storefront, add some interactivity, and create some password-protected opportunities for special visitors. Sound like a challenge you're up to? Requirements: You have to speak "technology" with the current webmaster. I'm not a web design person, so I don't speak that language.

Coordinate Lifesaving Rides for Cancer Patients: American Cancer Society in Pewaukee
Can you help make phone calls and send emails to area volunteer drivers to help schedule rides for cancer in your community? If so, we need your help! The American Cancer Society is seeking a Road to Recovery Volunteer Coordinator for Waukesha County. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer and do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. The Volunteer Coordinator helps to schedule ride requests for cancer patients. The Coordinator, monitors requests for the county they live in. When rides are needed, the Coordinator calls or emails volunteer drivers to help schedule patient rides.
Requirements:  Minimum age is 21 years old, and background check required. New volunteers are required to complete a New Volunteer Orientation, a Road to Recovery specific training and a re-certification training every two years.


JanBoree Pancake Breakfast: Waukesha Parks, Rec, and Forestry in Waukesha
The Friends of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department are sponsoring the Winter JanBoree Pancake Breakfast. The Friends are in need of volunteers to assist in serving the breakfast and cleaning up. All funds raised from this event go to the Friends of WPRF to support park projects. The breakfast will be held at the Schuetze Recreation Center, 1120 Baxter Street, Waukesha WI 53186. We would like volunteers to be 12 years and older. We are looking for approximately 10 people to work the first shift, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 10 people to work the second shift, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
