United Way in Waukesha County Honors Top Givers

A retired Waukesha School District employee receives top prize.

celebrated their 2011 Campaign success on Feb. 7 at their annual campaign appreciation breakfast. This year, United Way in Waukesha County exceeded its goal of $4.3 million by raising $4.35 million.

The breakfast featured more than 200 attendees and represented many local businesses and organizations. 2011 Campaign Co-Chairs, John Robertstad of ProHealth Care, Inc. and Joan Shafer of We Energies, were also honored. The 2012 campaign chair, Mike Erwin, of Tailored Label Products was also announced.

“We are proud of our numerous organizational partners,” said Jayne Thoma, executive director of United Way in Waukesha County. “The campaign coordinators and presidents at these companies worked hard to help us meet our goal. Over 400 companies, which represents over 80 percent of giving accounts, saw an increase over their 2010 campaign. ”

Also noteworthy is the number of organizations that ran a United Way campaign for the first time or reinstated a previous campaign in 2011. Thirty-five organizations in the Waukesha County community were categorized as a new or reinstated account last year.

Leo Palacois, a retired Waukesha School District teacher, was also announced as the grand prize winner. An individual had to increase their contribution by at least $52 to be entered to win the prize, which was valued at more than $17,000. The prize included a flat screen TV, framed and signed prints from Packers, Brewers and Bucks players, a new couch, beverage center and more.

United Way also paid special recognition to their leaderboard companies, that is, companies that raised over $25,000 in combined corporate and employee giving:
