Fundraiser to Help Apartment Fire Victims Find Permanent Housing

devastated the 32-unit apartment building at 212 W. North St. Many people were displaced, and many lost everything, not even able to revisit their former homes to salvage.

Cindy Paladino, a family member of one of the victims, along with Barbi Lee and owners Ken and Tracy Zettelmeier decided to do something to help.

The help is coming in the form of a fundraiser, what they're calling "February's Hot Ticket" starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20.

The event features two rock cover bands, Joyride and Step In Out, as well as a raffle and silent auction.

"What we're trying to do is raise funds for people to find housing, to get back their lives," Paladino said. "They're starting over. When you've got nothing, it's hard to find another apartment because you don't have the down payment."

Paladino said many of the people who were displaced by the fire have been staying with friends or in  hotels. Both options are not meant for extended stay, so she said she hopes to raise enough money to help these people find permanent homes.

For the raffle and auction, Paladino said they have a spa gift certificate, a Super Bowl football and clothing. They are still accepting donations.

Ken Zettelmeier said that in addition to the funds raised through the raffle and auction, Master Z's will donate a portion of their profits from the evening.

"I know there's a lot of people that have nothing right now," Zettelmeier said. "And that's the whole concept, some of them don't have a TV or even a bed. We need to get them back in an apartment and back on their feet."

Zettelmeier encouraged everyone to come out to help, regardless of how much a person is able to donate,

"Every dollar adds up," Zettelmeier said. "Don't feel like if you can't spend $100 that you shouldn't come."

Paladino said the event will be a fun time, while at the same time helping people in need.

"Come and have some fun," Paladino said. "And help some people who are needing help rebuilding their lives and have some fun doing something for a good cause."
