Christmas Clearing Council Participating in ‘Miracle on Canal Street’

Editor’s note: The following information was provided to Patch via a news release from the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County.

is one of 30 children’s charities from southeastern Wisconsin selected to participate in this year’s Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s annual Miracle on Canal Street, Potawatomi’s signature community program. CCC plans to use the anticipated donation from the program to help unsponsored families purchase shoes for their children.

This year marks the 18th anniversary of Potawatomi Bingo Casino’s Miracle on Canal Street program.  Together with its dedicated bingo players, the organization has donated more than $10.5 million to nearly 350 local children’s charities. Potawatomi Bingo Casino raises funds for the program through a series of special bingo games.  The generosity of casino guests, vendors, media partners and team members has allowed the program to grow each year.

To be eligible for Miracle on Canal Street, an organization must have 501(c)(3) status, be located in Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Waukesha or Washington counties and serve a primary client base of children younger than 18.  The Miracle on Canal Street grand total is announced during the Miracle Bingo Bash on Friday, Dec. 9.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled or grateful to have been selected as a Miracle on Canal Street charity this year,” said Ruth Page Jones, CCC’s executive director.  “The funds we receive will increase the help we are able to provide the families in our program who are not sponsored. We will use the money to help our families buy shoes for their children, a necessity that will mean so much to our clients.”

CCC also reminds the public of the opportunity to sponsor a family registered with CCC. CCC is currently matching families, organizations and individuals willing to sponsor children with families in need.  Sponsorship involves purchasing toys or clothing in the amount of $60 per child.  Sponsors should make arrangements to deliver their gifts of Christmas toys or clothing personally by December 14.  Interested sponsors are encouraged to call 262-549-NOEL (6635).  CCC takes calls Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Monday evenings from 6 until 8 p.m.

Families who are not matched with sponsors through the program are invited to come to the CCC Toy Shop to shop for community-donated gifts and clothing items for their children. CCC is also requesting donations from the community of cash and gift cards to help children for whom a sponsor is not found.

Our spruce trees have been dying as well. Very slowly. This is on upper Coventry lane just acrossRead More from the walkway to Meadowbrook school.

We lost bushes also. I assumed it was from last summer's drought. We're located near Hy59 andRead More Sunset. I noticed dead trees at Prairie View and Sunset also.

I agree that the folks at this Kwik Trip are great at assisting disabled people like myself but IRead More disagree that all Kwik Trips are helpful. There is a law that all gas stations are to assist you if you have disabled plates or a hanging placard if you press the help or disabled key on the pump. If there is no key (and I think all must have them by a certain date) then you are to honk horn twice and if there are at least 2 employees on duty, they are to assist. The K/T on St. Paul is useless. I've waited there, watching at least 3 employees mill around the counter with 1 or 2 customers and ingnore me. The Grandview station same but I haven't tried them in a few months. The worst station for that is whatever the one on St. Paul and Prarie is. I pulled in to see a female worker standing on side of building smoking. When she went in she was greeted by a male worker and I was ignored by both. I'd like to do a survey on how helpful each gas station is to the disabled. Kudos to Fleetfoot Kwik Trip! Whatever they got they should share with their brethren. I would rather give my $ to K/T because they are WI based and they donate regularly to the Salvation Army

I am fine with this service--its great. However being handicapped does not mean employees need toRead More give up their breaks or other customers need to let you cut in line in front of their service needs.

Will these need water? Because the Garden Center at Target has great deals on "no water"Read More tomato plants, which would surely save me some much needed General Assistance money.
Kathy Spancrete June 13, 2013 at 09:14 pm
According to a recent episode of Judge Judy, tomatoes can be both poisonous and deadly. When IRead More called the posted phone number asking for a simple answer to my many serious questions, and all they did was put me on hold -- repeatedly. I cannot recommend a company that refuses to stand behind its own product, much less pick up the phone.

Update! Collin was just selected as one of two STATE TROOPERS for Dodge County. He and otherRead More representatives were interviewed yesterday. Word is that he may be assisting Governor Scott Walker off the helicopter when he arrives at Badger Boys State later this week. Governor Walker is a past Badger Boys State representative.
