Health & Fitness

Thanks, Obamacare-I'm covered. Almost.

In my last blog, I wrote about my attempts to get enrolled on Healthcare.gov. I decided to scrap my old account and application. So, I set-up my e-mail account that my internet company offered me and created a new account on Healthcare.gov. Success, I was actually able to log in for the first time since October first! I filled out the application and found it operating faster than it did when I had did it through the call center. I received my premium information right away. No waiting for months this time.
The shopping began. (Aren't I supposed to be shopping for Christmas not health insurance?) There was a little over 40 silver plans provided by five companies. Only one company had my doctor in their network. As you can guess, it was the most expensive plan for me. (All of them are expensive for the US government.)
Once I made my choice, I "enrolled" in a health insurance plan and dental plan. The dental plan reacted to the form from healthcare.gov in a day or so but the health insurance is still waiting for the form. I paid the initial premium for the dental insurance. (The government is not subsidizing this plan.) So, I now need to pay the premium for the health insurance before January first (Check with your health insurance plan for your due date. Many are doing the best they can to take us late arrivals due to the websites issues.) Yet, the form may take a week to two weeks to get to my health insurance company in order for me to have a member number to use to pay my premium.
What next after that? I need to pick a new Primary Care Physician the is in network.
