Salvation Army Helps Whittier School's Students

Salvation Army helps to feed students at Whittier school.

I was at the Salvation Army helping to pack some backpacks, which will be distributed tomorrow. We put cans of food, noodles, and snack foods into them for the families who receive free or reduced meals at Whittier school. They receive them in advance of the weekends and use the food to help feed the family until the next school day.

After the weekend, they return the backpacks for the next week. This program, the snack program, was started in the fall of 2008, according to the Salvation Army web site.  This program works with two schools including I couldn't believe the number that the gentleman at the Salvation Army stated as the percentage of people who recieve free or reduced price lunches at Whittier.  So, I looked it up.  It was 80 percent of 357 students.

If you want to donate something, please visit the Salvation Army site for information.
