Waukesha Woman Secures 2012 Olympics Position

Gwen Jorgensen will compete in the triathlon in London.

Gwen Jorgensen, 25, of Waukesha, will compete in the 2012 Olympics in London after receiving a silver medal at the ITU World Championship Series triathlon, according to various news reports.

USA Today is reporting that Jorgensen completed her first triathlon, which is a combination of swimming, biking and running, in March 2010.

"It's surreal for sure," Jorgensen told USA Today. "It definitely hasn't sunk in."

Jorgensen, a Waukesha South grad, was recruited to run triathlons while she was completing her time at University of Wisconsin-Madison, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A blog on the Milwaukee newspaper’s website states that Jorgensen finished the triathlon in London in two hours and 41 seconds.

“I think we are all thinking medals, so that is the ultimate goal,” she said in the interview.
