South High Grad Gwen Jorgensen Defeated by Flat Tire

London 2012 Olympics comes to an end for local triathlete who placed 38th after suffering a flat tire.

graduate Gwen Jorgensen placed 38th in the triathlon in London 2012 Olympics Saturday morning – a flat tire lead to the disappointing outcome.

"You don't get to come to the Olympics every year," Jorgensen told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I just wanted to finish and know that I gave it my all. I just wanted to put it all out there."

The 26-year-old accountant at Ernst & Young in Milwaukee was competing in the Olympics this year for the first time. Her time of two hours, six minutes and 34 seconds was not enough to fight against Nicola Spirig, the athlete from Switzerland who took the gold.
