“It kind of brings an end to the season with another reason to bring more people into downtown,” said Norm Bruce, owner of Martha Merrell Books in downtown Waukesha.

Registration for the event is $30. Online registration is already open. Updates about the event are available on the event’s Facebook page.

The organizers of the Dirty Girl Mud Run are running the Friday Night Live Lights Run, according to Bruce. The Downtown Business Association and the Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department are also partnering with the event.

“They are telling us that they expect that they can bring about 3,500 people to this kind of event,” Bruce said.

The event is also a way to promote fitness in Waukesha. Waukesha school children will be encouraged to run and walk 25 miles in September before the 5K. The Friday Night Live Lights run will feature a 1.1-mile walk/run for those children, which will bring their running and walking efforts to a whole marathon in September.

The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will focus its efforts on adults who have not been physically active, according to Bruce.
