Carl Zach Cycling Classic Begins Today

Bike race through downtown Waukesha leading to several street closures.

The Carl Zach Cycling Classic will start at 11 a.m. Sunday in downtown Waukesha.

The event, underwritten by Couri Insurance Agency and organized by the Waukesha Business Improvement District, offers spectators a chance to see professional cyclists from all over the world race on the streets in Waukesha where they will take hairpin turns at more than 30 miles per hour.

The race runs in a clockwise direction starting on West Main Street in front of Couri Insurance Agency, 379 W. Main St.. The route heads east; turning south on Grand Ave.; west on Wisconsin Ave.; south on Maple Ave.; west on West Park Ave.; north on West Ave.; and then east on Main St. back to the start/finish line in front of Couri Insurance Agency.

The following closures of Waukesha city streets will take place from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. for the Carl Zach Cycling Classic.

  •  N. West Ave. from W. Park Ave. to W. Main St.
  • W. Main St. from N. West Ave. to W. Broadway and N. Grand Ave.
  •  Clinton St. from the entrance to Parking Lot 3 to Wisconsin Ave.
  •  Wisconsin Ave. from N. Grand Ave. to N. West Ave.
  •  Maple Ave. from W. Main St. to W. Park Ave.
  •  W. Park Ave. from Maple Ave. to N. West Ave.
  •  Glenwood Dr. from N. West Ave. to the cul-de-sac.
  •  N. Grand Ave. from Wisconsin Ave. to W. Broadway and W. Main St.
  •  South St. from N. Grand Ave. to Clinton St.
