Waukesha West Principal Resigns Abruptly

No details provided on the resignation of David Towers, whose last day with Waukesha School District was Friday.

Waukesha West High School Principal David Towers has resigned for “personal reasons,” effective immediately, after being at the school for about 1-1/2 years.

Towers’ resignation was announced via a letter to parents from Superintendent Todd Gray.

“We regret that we do not have any other information to share with you at this time,” Gray said in the letter. “Mr. Towers offers his thanks and appreciation to the West High parents and community for your support over the last year and a half.”

Towers started as principal at Waukesha West High School in August 2011. He served as an associate principal at Germantown High School from 2009-11. Previously, he was an assistant principal at Germantown.

Waukesha School District staff are developing a plan for operations at the high school.

“At this time the district is working to ensure appropriate coverage for the remainder of the year and will begin planning the recruitment and selection process for a permanent replacement,” Gray said in the letter.

This man thought that making major changes at a high school without consulting the board of Ed was a good idea....this man thought that harsh punishment for minor offenses was a good idea, this man was given full rein on a high school that for years has been ranked as a great school. Ask any parent who had a student who had a minor offense, (I.e. food fight...) if they thought he handled the situation appropriately. This man thought he could do no wrong.....and the board of Ed allowed him full control....and now once again Waukesha West High School is in the pres.

An upside to this situation is that the class of 2013 will not have to sit through another dreadful graduation speech like the one Towers gave to the class of 2012. The Board of Ed has been given a great "do over". Please get it right this time.

Interesting comments on topix.com not to mention the mistake by superintendent
Todd Gray on the date of the letter....January 9th?

Sorry for my earlier comment. Yes, it's probably not something simple, but no, it's none of our business.

This guy was a putz. Look at the stagering amount of kids that transfered out of Waukesha West. (My son included) Towers couldn't keep a Toco Bell running, let alone a school. If this sounds bitter your right! this idiot turned our lives upsidedown and had no bones about ruining my kids future over a lie. I hope he is held to the same standered in the public that he held the students too. "couldn't happened to a nicer guy"

Mr.Stanton, I couldn't agree with you more. This man single handily ruined kids future and high school experience. One of the things I loved about west was that the kids enjoyed going to school. They enjoyed going to games, the enjoyed school spirit. Even the teachers were lively and passionate about their jobs ans the kids education. Towers came in and laid down the law to the extent that kids were railroaded and punished way past the limits. They are teenagers and as teenagers they will make mistakes. But it is as teenagers that we society should work with them not punish hem to the point of no return.

Why was he hired in the first place? He had never been a principal before. I heard there were many more qualified people them him who applied. Another bad hire.

If you have kids (or maybe even if you don't,) Fred, you should voice this directly to the Board of Ed. Unlike us on the Patch, they can actually respond intelligently to your accusation.

Wauk Resident with no kids in any school
Reading the comments in this subject it appears kids having to follow rules is an issue with parents that seem to think they don't have to. This guy may have been tough on students that had problems with rules but this is the time to learn to do so not when they lose a job or make a poor decision down the road. Discipline your children when needed and watch them become better individuals that may just surprise you!

I have been to many school board meetings. Discussions and responses are rare to say the least.

Mr. Lundt, I'm sure you're right. But I bet it's because questions are rarely presented by the public.

Not my experience
Outside of scheduled speakers, I have yet to see them open up the floor. I ended up talking to the SB members during breaks. They were in general accomodating and polite. However, it eliminated the purpose for me to attend meetings.

Hmm. Then I guess we're truly left with nothing but hearsay and unsubstantiated innuendo as weapons... I'll bow out of that.

Dawn: Can you tell me about a block or location where it's happening? We might be able to work on aRead More story this week on Patch.

Our spruce trees have been dying as well. Very slowly. This is on upper Coventry lane just acrossRead More from the walkway to Meadowbrook school.

We lost bushes also. I assumed it was from last summer's drought. We're located near Hy59 andRead More Sunset. I noticed dead trees at Prairie View and Sunset also.

I agree that the folks at this Kwik Trip are great at assisting disabled people like myself but IRead More disagree that all Kwik Trips are helpful. There is a law that all gas stations are to assist you if you have disabled plates or a hanging placard if you press the help or disabled key on the pump. If there is no key (and I think all must have them by a certain date) then you are to honk horn twice and if there are at least 2 employees on duty, they are to assist. The K/T on St. Paul is useless. I've waited there, watching at least 3 employees mill around the counter with 1 or 2 customers and ingnore me. The Grandview station same but I haven't tried them in a few months. The worst station for that is whatever the one on St. Paul and Prarie is. I pulled in to see a female worker standing on side of building smoking. When she went in she was greeted by a male worker and I was ignored by both. I'd like to do a survey on how helpful each gas station is to the disabled. Kudos to Fleetfoot Kwik Trip! Whatever they got they should share with their brethren. I would rather give my $ to K/T because they are WI based and they donate regularly to the Salvation Army

I am fine with this service--its great. However being handicapped does not mean employees need toRead More give up their breaks or other customers need to let you cut in line in front of their service needs.

Will these need water? Because the Garden Center at Target has great deals on "no water"Read More tomato plants, which would surely save me some much needed General Assistance money.
Kathy Spancrete June 13, 2013 at 09:14 pm
According to a recent episode of Judge Judy, tomatoes can be both poisonous and deadly. When IRead More called the posted phone number asking for a simple answer to my many serious questions, and all they did was put me on hold -- repeatedly. I cannot recommend a company that refuses to stand behind its own product, much less pick up the phone.

Update! Collin was just selected as one of two STATE TROOPERS for Dodge County. He and otherRead More representatives were interviewed yesterday. Word is that he may be assisting Governor Scott Walker off the helicopter when he arrives at Badger Boys State later this week. Governor Walker is a past Badger Boys State representative.
