Waukesha West Collects 2,000 Toys for Christmas Presents

Toys for Tots contest was among five area high schools.

The students and staff at showed up big this year as they collected more than 2,000 toys in four days and $1,400 to donate to Toys for Tots.

β€œThe new Wal-Mart was a great resource, and as students checked out, people clapped for them,” said Assistant Principal Sharon Thiede in an e-mail to Patch.

Patti Diekfuss’ first hour math class collected 174 toys and another student brought in 50 toys she purchased with birthday money, the e-mail states.

The collection for Toys for Tots was a contest against four other area high school for a chance to win a concert from American Idol Scotty McCreery. Burlington High School took first place.

Overall, the five high schools collected 9,724 toys, according to the FM106 website.
