This week, Waukesha Superintendent Todd Gray wrote this following open letter, which is posted on the district’s website:

“Although we are seeing a large number of both large and small districts around the state closing due to heavy absenteeism, I am happy to report that the School District of Waukesha is reporting lower-than-average absenteeism from all our employee groups over the last few tumultuous days.  Our teachers and support staff have exhibited both a strong commitment and remarkable professionalism to our students, families and the community at all times, but especially in these trying times.

“Our illness absentee rates have hovered around three percent for the week of Feb. 14 to 18. This is remarkable for any organization, public or private, considering this is also cold and flu season.  We do not have teachers or others calling in sick to attend rallies in Madison.

“I would like to thank our entire professional and support staff for their continued support of our schools, students, and families.”
