Swim Team Dives in Big for Breast Cancer Support

Briana Horozewski, a Kettle Moraine High School senior, was a freshman on the school’s swim team when her former boyfriend’s mom was fighting breast cancer.

“I kind of got to see what she went through,” Briana said. “It inspired us to raise something for the cure.”

The Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine high school girls swimming and diving team is making a big splash when it comes to fundraising for breast cancer research.

Briana and her mother have been designing T-shirts for the team to sell for breast cancer. She said it’s a lot of work to make the shirts, but it’s worth it because the funds go to fight against a disease that touches so many people.

“I think it is awesome that we can get everyone included in it as well and get our whole team doing it” Briana said.

The above blog is by Head Coach Kyle Bedalov, who says the team has worked hard to sell its T-shirts to raise more than $1,000 for breast cancer research.

They’ve come a long way in just a few years. Two years ago, the team raised $300 for breast cancer research.

“As a team we do some things for the community because I am a firm believer in that being an student/athlete requires you to be a productive member of society,” Bedalov said in an email to Waukesha Patch.

The team will receive a visit from former Green Bay Packer Leroy Butler, the originator of the Lambeau Leap, who will accept the donation for his charity the Leroy Butler Foundation.
