TONIGHT: Waukesha School Board Voting on White Rock Closure

Shutting down White Rock Elementary School in 2012 could save district $450,000.

The Waukesha School Board will be asked at its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday (TONIGHT) to close White Rock Elementary School beginning with the 2012-13 school year.

A school district document states that school district staff is recommending the closure, which is projected to save the district more than $400,000.

The document states several key points to the closure:

  • The plan has been discussed publicly and is “well known throughout the community.”
  • The plan allows 12 months transition and development of final plans and program improvements.
  • Less than one-third of the students attending White Rock reside in the attendance area.
  • Allows bilingual/English as a Second Language students to attend neighborhood school or regional ESL school, depending on services.
  • Allow a more comprehensive offering of dual language programs.
  • Provides framework for improved extracurricular participation in middle and high school.
  • Estimated savings in operation reductions (staffing, bussing, administrative costs, maintenance and overhead costs) will be at least $450,000.


Additionally, the Waukesha School Board will receive periodic planning updates as the school district closes White Rock.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday and is held at the Waukesha School District’s administrative building at 222 Maple Ave.
