Waukesha County Business Alliance Earns State Honor for Educational Focus

Waukesha County Business Alliance is being recognized by Tony Evers for their efforts in educating students and providing critical career readiness skills.

Waukesha County Business Alliance is being recognized by State Superintendent Tony Evers for an educational partnership.

The alliance is receiving one of nine 2013 Business Friends of Education awards from the state. The awards “recognize projects that collaborate in educating students and providing critical career readiness skills,” according to a release.

"The partnerships that our schools and businesses develop create a community to help educate and prepare our students for the future,” Evers said in a release. “The volunteer hours, outreach, business tours, and service to career and technical education made by these Business Friends of Education truly make a difference in students’ lives.”

The Waukesha County Business Alliance works with local businesses to help educate schools, students, and parents about careers in the manufacturing area.

The business alliance conducts tours, sets up partnerships between schools and area businesses, gives input to school district advisory committees, and facilitates relationships between K-12 districts and postsecondary programs.

Mary Baer, director of membership development, has worked with the Waukesha School District, helping the district find local employers to serve on an advisory committee, build partnerships, update its technology and engineering curriculum, and increase student opportunities to earn transcripted credit.

The alliance has written grants to start the Schools 2Skills tours for students and parents to tour local businesses and learn about manufacturing careers.

The Waukesha County Business Alliance’s Manufacturing Alliance also was instrumental in bringing the Dream It. Do It. Campaign and website to southeastern Wisconsin. The national recruitment strategy,sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers, is designed to emphasize manufacturing as an industry providing high-paying, high-quality careers.
