Teacher Negotiations Begin Soon in Waukesha

Teaching negotiations will begin on last year's work.

School leaders and school board representatives will begin bargaining with the Education Association of Waukesha at 5 p.m. Sept. 16 as school officials and the teacher's union look to negotiate the 2012-13 teaching contracts.

The school district and the teacher's union will meet in open session at the administration building at 222 Maple Ave. Under Act 10, the unions can only negotiate for wage increases and the contracts can only be negotiated for one year.

The school board approved controversial contracts in July for the 2011-12 school year with a wage increase and supplemental pay that gave a higher increase to newer teachers. The contract settlement did not set well with the Education Association of Waukesha.

The two parties can not begin negotiations on this year's teaching contracts until last school year's teaching contracts are settled.
