PHOTOS: Families Celebrate Dual-Language Program at Bethesda

One of the students are her parents left that evening, and outside the doors of the school, this five year old, having been exposed to Spanish for three short weeks, says to her parents "It's 'frio' and I need my 'chaqueta'. This might seem small, but if we analyze it, the student at this young age is applying her new vocabulary with grammatical accuracy and a confidence few adult language learners have after years of effort to learn a second language. This encouraging sign is due to the professional techniques of the student's teacher who has been trained in second language acquisition, a highly specialized area of early childhood instruction.
