Hawthorne, Blair Schools Could Feed Into Central Middle School

Crowding at Butler Middle School leads to request for changes.

Students who attend Hawthorne and Blair elementary schools could find themselves going to Central Middle School following fifth grade instead of Butler Middle School.

The Waukesha School Board will be asked to approve the change during its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 222 Maple Ave. The change would begin with this school year’s fifth graders.

Butler Middle School is crowded and is growing in enrollment faster than Horning and Central middle schools, according to a school district document. Central has the space to take 80 to 85 students from Hawthorne and Blair elementary schools.

The change could slightly increase busing costs but the school district document states the increase would not be significant.

“Butler is becoming overcrowded while Central has adequate space,” the document states. “Central is the next closest middle school to these two elementary schools. It allows a full class in each school to attend together as opposed to breaking up other attendance areas that could accomplish a reduction in enrollees to Butler.”
