Anti-Bullying Event Being Held Monday

A program focused on preventing bullying will be held at on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011. It will include a 30-minute showing of the documentary film, “Journey to a Hate-Free Millennium,” talkback discussion, dialogue with student organizations that represent Carroll’s cultural diversity, and a resource table with free materials on the tragic effects of bullying, stereotyping and intolerance. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Stackner Ballroom of the Campus Center, 101 N. East Ave., Waukesha. It is free and open to the public.

“Journey to a Hate-Free Millennium” is a documentary directed in 1999 by Martin Bedogne and Brent Scarpo. It explores hate crimes in America, including the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School, the 1998 murder of James Byrd Jr., an African-American man who was attacked by three white men, and the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a homosexual student at the University of Wyoming.

This anti-bullying event is sponsored by Association for the Rights of Citizens with Handicaps (ARCh) of Waukesha and Carroll University’s Office of Cultural Diversity, Student Affairs Office and Residence Life.
