Dirty Dancing? Schools Looking at Student Dance Behaviors

The Waukesha School Board's Policy Committee will look at grinding and other issues during a meeting on Tuesday.

A Waukesha School Board committee will discuss behavior at school dances after several parents and school board members discussed concerns about grinding and other behaviors at the dances.

The Policy Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district’s administration office, 222 Maple Ave.

The issue arose two months ago after a father of a Waukesha West High School student told the School Board that grinding at high school dances is an “ongoing problem” that needs to be resolved immediately. Grinding is essentially a dance involving partners rubbing their bodies on each other in a sexual manner.

Menomonee Falls High School and Union Grove High School have already banned grinding from the school dances. The change upset some students, including one girl who told Today’s TMJ4 in an undated article that “it is our way of culture now. It’s how we dance.”

And in February, a high school in the Chicago suburbs also banned “moves simulating sex moves,” again a change that upset students. Attendance at the next dance was down because of the policy change, according to the Huffington Post.

So let them stay away from the dances...who needs them? I was a rebel at that age but I wasn't immoral. Hey...who's in charge? And I mean at home as well as school dances.

Banning dance moves simulating sex moves..... there wont be any more dance moves left.... sheesh. Just stick with the banning of grinding. I don't think kids are going to do the Charleston anymore, and good luck forcing it.

Quit making the "moves" sound so innocent. They mean lower body thrusts and other sex simulating moves. Who in hell said anything about going back to the Charleston? I don't even go THAT far back in age. There were plenty of fun dances like the jitterbug...also the dances in "Grease" were tame compared to what SOME of these kids want to do.

I totally agree with taming what happens on the dance floor. I'm no prude, but today's teens are so casual about sex (among other things). Remember when sex, making love was something special between two people and happened in private. Grinding and sexual moves is too much PDA and doesn't belong on the dance floor among 15-17 year olds...or anyone for that matter.
