Carroll University Students and Alumni Aim to Collect 10,000 Meals for Food Pantries

University holding National Day of Service on April 9, but community can donate food at area drop-off locations.

Carroll University’s National Day of Service is being held Saturday, April 9, but the students are getting a head start as they are collecting meals for local food pantries. Participants have already donated more than 2,000 meals, according to a news release from the university.

Carroll University, in partnership with Target, Feeding American and Carroll alumni across the country, are working to collect 10,000 meals for local food pantries, according the news release.

"The Carroll University community is actively engaged in service, locally and across the nation," Carroll’s President Douglas Hastad, said in the release. "We recognize that hunger touches nearly every community. Our National Day of Service project raises awareness of the issue and will provide meals for thousands of people. We are very proud to have our alumni align with the support of Target and Feeding America in this effort." Nearly 21,000 plastic Target bags were stuffed inside informational brochures and sent to Carroll alumni and friends nationwide. Participants are asked to fill the bag with groceries and deliver it to a local Feeding America site or a neighborhood food pantry, then fill out an online form that will track total donations, the release states.
