Carroll University Receives Award for Food Drive

Waukesha college's 2011 spring food drive collected more than 25,000 meals for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

Carroll University has received a Hunger’s Hope award from Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for a spring 2011 food drive that collected more than 25,000 meals for the organization.

Carroll's second annual National Day of Service, a nationwide effort to engage alumni, students, faculty, staff, community members and friends of the university, raised a total of 25,386 meals, more than double Carroll's 10,000-meal goal.

The project, in partnership with Feeding America and Target Corporation, drew participants from 28 states who dropped off food at Carroll, donated to their local pantries or made online gifts to Feeding America, which has a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks. Four local businesses – R&R Insurance, Almont Gallery, Allo! Chocolat and Boldt Construction – partnered with Carroll and served as community collection sites.

The Hunger’s Hope award recognizes “donors who go above and beyond to provide the crucial bridge that connects hungry families to nutritious meals,” said Ross Younger, Food Resource Associate for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. “Our team was impressed by Carroll's efforts to get both alumni and the student body involved, by Carroll’s ability to get area businesses to support the food drive, and by Carroll’s enthusiasm to embrace our new virtual food drive resource, OnlineHarvest.org. Clearly, the university’s efforts exceeded our expectations.”

During Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s 2010 fiscal year, only five of the 250 area food drives, including Carroll’s, held on behalf of the organization were recognized with a Hunger’s Hope Award.
