Carroll Student Receives National Scholarship

Jamie Cuzman, a mathematics and secondary education double major at is the recipient of a $5,000 AFCEA STEM Teachers Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year.

The scholarship is one of 50 awarded by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Educational Foundation to undergraduate, graduate and credential or licensure students preparing to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM subjects) in U.S. middle or secondary schools. Recipients must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.

In addition to the $5,000 scholarship, each graduating AFCEA STEM Scholar will receive a $1,000 AFCEA Science Teaching Tool grant each year for three years if the recipient continues to teach a STEM subject. These grants can be used to fund hardware and software, other classroom tools, field trips, STEM-focused clubs and other activities.
